The name naked-flowered tick-trefoil comes from the fact that the flower stalk has no leaves. It emerges from the ground near the stem that bears the leaves. Compare this with pointed-leaf tick-trefoil, which has just one stem emerging from the ground, and this stem bears both leaves and flowers.
