bayberry resin dots
Enlarged view of the underside of a leaf. The yellowish spots contain resin, which gives bayberry leaves an aromatic scent. The upper leaf surfaces have many fewer dots. The resin dots are barely visible to the naked eye, but they can be seen clearly with a hand lens.
