Take a walk through restored meadows and out to the rocky and wooded Mamacoke Island. Explore both naturally occurring meadows and areas that were cleared and seeded two decades ago with native grasses and wildflowers, and maintained as early
successional habitat for conservation purposes. We will also be identifying the diversity
of goldenrods, asters, other wildflowers and grasses found in the meadows. We will
then cross a tidal salt marsh to get out to the wooded 40-acre Mamacoke Island. This
coastal area was recognized as an Important Bird Area and provides critically important
habitat for bird populations.
