Silver Sands, created on the ruins of a residential neighborhood destroyed by a hurricane in 1955, is a popular beachfront park, but away from the crowds and the umbrellas, there are interesting semi-brackish damp meadows and shrublands containing some interesting species.

Directions and Parking: From I-95, take Exit 35 Schoolhouse Road and go south to Route One. Go left on Rte. One a short distance, then right onto Silver Sands State Park Way. Park at the far end of the dirt parking lot.
